During an overtime session Sunday, the Illinois General Assembly approved expanded gambling legislation that includes legalized sports betting. The gambling package also includes six new casinos, including one to be built in Chicago, and slot machines at both of the city’s airports.The bill, sponsored by Democratic Sen. Terry Link, was approved 46-10 Sunday.

Tennessee Governor Bill Lee followed through and returned to the Legislature without his signature the state’s newly approved Sports Gaming Act meaning the state will be the first in the nation to have online-only sports betting. It will become law on July 1, but actual betting won’t begin until the end of 2019 or early 2020.

SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia began a three-day online and mobile sports betting testing Tuesday, becoming the first casino in the state to accept online sports bets. State regulators said late last week that testing was going to begin and true to their word, the app went live late Tuesday afternoon.

Massachusetts casinos and fantasy sports leader DraftKings expressed differing views on how to implement sports betting on the first of two days of hearings. DraftKings testified that it wants the state to allow online operators to offer sports betting without having to be partnered with an existing land-based casino.
